“Close to Colchester, but with a country setting, this is one of my favourite places from our UK trip.

A long drive leads into the extensive grounds of Prested Hall. It is a combination of hotel and wedding reception and gym/pool facilities in one area. The hotel has the historical quirks we hoped for – odd sets of stairs, big rooms, timber, a library, breakfast room with the feel of a conservatory. Staff were very pleasant and helpful.

We had two rooms. The larger of the two had a king size bed and huge bathroom down three steps. Shower over the bath, but spacious room. Wonderful tile work gave it an Art Deco feel. The smaller bedroom looked over the small lake where swans and ducks provided country colour. There is also a small bridge with a covered area at one end perfect for special photos.

The pool and gym are open to hotel guests at no extra charge.

Breakfast was available daily, but dinner might not be. It wasn’t on the two nights we stayed, but the village of Feering is only about one mile down the road and we tried two different and delightful old English pubs for meals.”
