May 2018

He’s done it! Rob Fahey won the World Championship at Queens Club on Saturday 28th April 2018 after a knuckle-biting three day battle against Camden Riviere.

The world challenge started on Tuesday 24th April with 4 sets played of a possible 13 sets.  At the end of some of the most exciting tennis ever seen Riviere led by 3 sets to 1 set and the scores were 4/6, 6/3, 6/5 6/0.

Another 4 sets were played on Thursday, and in a spectacular day’s performance, Fahey won all 4 sets on Thursday and ended the day leading Riviere by 5 sets to 3. The scores were 6/5, 6/4, 6/3 6/1.

This meant that play continued on Saturday with a further 5 sets being played, or until one player reached a total of 7 sets.

Saturday’s scores were 5/6 0/6 6/3 6/3 – Rob brings home the world champion trophy to Prested for another 2 years.

It was just the beginning of the celebrations for Team Fahey, as two days after winning against his opponent – nearly 20 years his junior – Rob turned 50.

A brilliant weekend at Prested and fantastic to see junior tennis thriving!

Huge congratulations to our new U20s British Amateur Champion – Benedict Yorston who beat Henry Lidington 6/5 6/2 in a highly competitive final.  Congratulations also go to George Parsons (RTC) for defending his U20s Handicap title! He beat Prested jr Ben Dickson in the Final, who was unbeaten til this point.

A superb display of tennis from all the juniors playing this weekend, fantastic to see their progression.  Junior tennis is looking very indeed.  Thank you to all those who took part and look forward to welcoming you all back next year.

March 2018

After an incredibly busy end to March, we look forward to a very busy April. Over Easter we are hosting junior training for our very own Prested juniors, ahead of the U20s Amateur Singles Championships being held here on the 7th/8th April.

We look forward to welcoming top Juniors from across the country and wish all participants the best of luck! Good luck too to our PLH Junior team who make their way to Radley for an away match.

The weekend of 14th/15th April we are hosting the Over 40s British Amateur Doubles. There will be some fantastic, top class amateur doubles on offer and once again we look forward to welcoming all participants to Prested (including a good representation of Prested locals too!).

Towards the end of April, we wish Rob the best of luck as he heads to Queen’s Club, London to compete in the Singles World Championships.

Throughout the month, we continue with club matches, social tennis and junior tennis.

If you’ve always wanted to try real tennis, come and see us in the pro shop and we’d be happy to arrange an introduction to our fantastic game!

February 2018

We had a fantastically successful weekend for the club.  On Saturday 16 family teams came together for Blake’s Old Racquet handicap doubles, which was a huge success.  Wonderful to see so many family pairings and a great tribute to Prested for being such a family oriented club.  A special congratulations goes to our Winners; Melvyn Plum & Chris Wallace who beat Ian & Megan Hawkey in a nail biting final!  On Sunday, Prested continued their successful run in social matches, this time against Middlesex Real Tennis Club.  Please to report, Prested won the match 4/3.

Rob made it through to the FINAL ELIMINATOR after beating Bryn Sayers 5 sets to 2, not an easy feat. Rob Fahey bt Bryn Sayers 4/6 6/3 6/1 6/5 4/6 6/4 6/5.  We now have the pleasure of hosting the last 2 legs of the Final Eliminator, dates for the diary are Thursday 1st March (in Chicago), Wednesday 7th March & Friday 9th March at Prested.

October 2017
Prested won the British Over-50’s Championship, with the final being fought out between Peter Holmes/Simon Barker and Mark Nicholls/David Watson.  Holmes/Barker took the title in a well fought tournament over the first weekend in October 2017.

June 2017

June in the Real Tennis office saw the conclusion of our Annual Club tournaments on ‘Finals Evening.’ A big congratulations to all those who played throughout the season, but an even bigger congratulations to our winners Steve Taylor (Level Singles), Steve Taylor & Toby Bawden (Level Doubles) and to Hannah Lucey, Richard Ramjane and Steve Steadman, who all won their respective Wilkinson Trophy grades and are now in a 3-way tie to decide the overall Wilkinson Trophy winner 2017.

We had plenty of tennis going on outside the club this month, and more titles for Prested! Congratulations Ian Hawkey & Bryan Eaton for winning the Rose Bowl at Newmarket and also to Clive Turner & Chris Vigrass for winning the Plate Doubles at Newmarket. Our Pro Team of Mr & Mrs Fahey also won the Premiere National League in a nail-biting final. A very successful month for the club!

May 2017

We have seen plenty of play on the real tennis courts this May, with many matches being played as we make our way to our Club Finals evening on Wednesday 21st June. From 5pm we will see the final of the Wilkinson Trophy (Club handicap), Club Level Singles and Club Level Doubles being played. There will be some fantastic tennis on show, so please come along to support and enjoy!

A big congratulations to our pro Claire Fahey who retained her World Singles and Doubles title, with her sister Sarah. They travelled for 10 days to Tuxedo Park, USA to compete in this event. It’s fantastic to see the Vigrass sisters still dominating the ladies game and representing Prested!

Prested pair Mark Nicholls and Steve Taylor lost the national Over 40s Doubles final (here at Prested) to Peter Wright and David Watson (of Hampton Court), but the Mikes Norgrove & Carter took revenge on the padel court. (It was, however, the visitors’ first ever game of padel, or so they claimed!)

Experience the game first-hand with our World Championship level coaches! We are offering a free hour taster session, available to members and locals. Contact the Pros for more information or to book.
